PONY EXPRESS RELAY - MAY 2003 JOURNALDATELINE: May 2003 The clothing quest has continued. After getting the Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket, I decided that it really was a bit too big for me. I found another lady rider who wanted it and am now probably going to order the Draggin' Jeans K-shirt as the alternative. I have plenty of clothes to layer in cool or wet weather, it's the heat that concerns me. I have gotten a writing assignment for a local bike magazine, BikeNights.com, and will be doing a 4=piece series for them about my ride. They are getting me a press pass as well as going to hype the ride in the magazine, on their web site and at any events they sponsor. Speaking of sponsor, I finally got 60 letters mailed out about three weeks ago. The return has been small but hoping that means my family and friends are soliciting donations from others in their area <g>. My goal is $2500. I know that's a pittance as compared to many, but this is my first time doing something like this. I will keep the fund thermometer on the donations page updated on a regular basis. I have made arrangements to share a room with one, possibly two and maybe even three other lady riders. The one confirmed roomie is a woman who is riding down solo from Boston to Orlando and then doing the entire Eastern Trail back home. My plans at the end of the ride are somewhat loose at this time. I have mapped out the trip and it seems to be close to 2700 miles, add in another 1300 for the trip home and without any additional sightseeing I will have added over 4000 miles to my bike. I am now thinking about needing my 10k service once I get north. More planning needed...
